HOW TO BOOST EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE

What is Emotional Resilience

"Resilient people do not let adversity define them. They find resilience by moving towards a goal beyond themselves, transcending pain and grief by perceiving bad times as a temporary state of affairs… It's possible to strengthen your inner self and your belief in yourself, to define yourself as capable and competent. It's possible to fortify your psyche. It's possible to develop a sense of mastery." Hara Estroff Marano

I think this statement coined by Hara Estroff Marano highlights the qualities that can help people move beyond adversities.  It demonstrates that often our perception of a situation can also be part of the issue.  We have the ability to become aware of our perceptions, acknowledge them and then change them.

How to boost it

When working with young children, I find Ollie and his Super Powers is a very gentle introduction to the idea of perception and a great medium for children to develop their emotional awareness.  Using this approach can create wonderful results and as a registered Ollie Coach I use outcome measures to assesses the effectiveness of this brief psychological intervention.

A variety of interventions such as NLP,  Positive Psychology and Cognitive Hypnotherapy can be highly effective when working with adolesence and adults, creating a highly interactive, dynamic approach.

My aim is to normalise and de-stigmatise any problem someone faces. It’s not about them as a person, it’s learnt negative behaviour that can be just as easily unlearned with the right approach for each individual client.

Working with Children

What it's about

All too often children are unable to successfully communicate how they really feel. With the help of 'Ollie and his superpowers', they are able to develop their own superpowers and communicate more easily.

Ollie is a character that children can use to help demonstrate how they feel.

By utilising Ollie and his super powers, children can learn about their different emotions: sadness, frustration anger, safe, happy, calm etc. They can learn they have the choice of which emotion (super power) to use.

How Ollie can help

As a qualified Ollie Coach, I assist children to develop emotional awareness and help them discover their own super powers.

Help your child manage their emotions by learning all about Ollie.

Ollie gets to choose how he wants to feel and the super powers that will be best at getting him through his day. We all have lots of emotions or super powers. Ollie teaches us to control which ones we use and when. He teaches us to understand why we feel what we feel so that we can decide if we really want to feel that way or feel something else.

Working with Parents and Teachers

An increasing number of schools and organisations are speaking 'Ollie' and helping children express the way they truly feel. Along with these organisations, parents can also learn about Ollie and therefore give their children emotional awareness, choice and confidence.

What people are saying

Thank you, I brought the Ollie and his superpowers book on Amazon and Ellie and I are taking the Ollie journey together. As you know she had developed a fear of swimming – or so we thought but by following your kind instructions we got fear out and sat her in my hand and had a chat with her. We now know it’s not swimming it’s the changing rooms and not being comfortable with her physical self around the other girls! So we asked fear what would make it better and fear said, through my little girl, that she would be happier in a cubical. Ellie is back loving swimming and so very much happier! Thank you so very much Ollie and his Superpowers! I am recommending the books to everyone – this is such a brilliant tool to have as a parent. Lynnette x

Feed back from our previous event

Thank you so much for the seminar tonight. Everything you said was so helpful and inspiring. Tomorrow I will talk to my son about his emotions and will ask him to draw the characters of his emotions as a starter. We have already texted our school governor and will chat with the Head tomorrow about booking an assembly at our primary school.  It's fabulous what you are doing. You truly are an angel sent from above. Just when I felt lost not knowing how to help my son with his emotions, Ollie and his powers have appeared in our lives. Thanks!
